Critical Care

Critical care medicine is an area of medicine concerned with the provision of life support or organ support systems in patients who are critically ill and who usually require intensive monitoring. Mechanical ventilation may be required if a patient's unassisted breathing is insufficient to oxygenate the blood.

Chest Medicine Associates physicians are part of multi-professional teams in Maine Medical Center’s Special Care Unit that use knowledge, technology and compassion to provide timely, safe, effective and efficient patient-centered care. All of Chest Medicine Associate’s physicians are trained in critical care medicine. They are either Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine, or are Board eligible and must obtain certification within their first two years of employment with the practice.
